Oikos '16; An experience sharing
"Oikos '16 is debut skill celebration conducted by asapians of ASAP Skill Development Center GHSS Kottila on 28 May 2016"
The Background
The Background
After the fourth year of succession, Skilling
more than 700 students, now we are much confident to expose the skill of
students to society and industry. Oikos
’16 is a humble initiative for the same.
While Oikos was in our mind our dream was it should be for by and of the
students and the programme should be a reflection of the skills they acquired
from the Foundation Module.
A beautiful correlation between five Foundation
projects and the skill courses blended with the upcoming industrial
opportunities in the locality. And we planned a programme to showcase that
beautiful saga.

The next challenge
was to acquire the fund. Fortunately our Kottila School got a beautiful
auditorium and the ambiance was apt for our programme. Institution and management was eager to share
the venue for us. So we decided to conduct the program as celebration of
skills, art and professional growth. Next
we discussed the plan with District Programme Manager Mrs. Smitha Sukumaran,
and put forward our programme proposal to her. She responded very enthusiastically
and offered all support for Oikos’16.

Venue

The lead role for the venue arrangement was taken
by five asapians – Sarath, Abhijith, Ajith, Nikhil and Dany. Outsiders who visited the school were
surprised to see the stage arrangement. The whole stage was set up in a
professional way. Students dropped their artistic skills in the decoration.
Master of Ceremonies
were Sreelakshmi and Vismaya. After hectic preparations and practices of project
sessions they found time to prepare for the script and rehearsal the
narrations.

Concept Programmes
This project is about the differently able

period and spend with them. The main intention of this project is to give
exposure to the skills and creativities of differently able students and aware
the society about the disabilities preventions and solutions.
Natural
contamination is one of the realities. Here the team tried to unveil one of
such reality - Kanayi Kanam, which is a stream that is polluting and at the
verge of extinction. Object of this project is to make awareness about same to
society. Team members took the real pictures by visiting
the venue and shooting with mobile cameras cunningly.
The students were not ready to stop their
effort just after indicating the problems, but they found solutions also. Also
they linked the situation with the skills they earned.
Tourism: Here the students done a research and case to case study. They visited the budding tourism facilities around and interviewed different stake holders such as resort owners, Secretary of district tourism Promotion Council etc.
Waste Management: The contamination of eco start from the improper waste management. So the team took an initiative to aware importance of waste management. Students conduct an exhibition by using the product they made from waste materials.
Product from waste : The team with the hand craft they made from waste material
Skill opportunity: Here we tried to correlate the
social opportunities with the skills students acquired. The tourism
opportunities in the around the constituency opens a new window to related
skill sector beauty and wellness. Upcoming developments around these tourist
spots are spas, Beauty clinics etc. Also there are opportunities for the
beauticians in marriage related ceremonies also. So in this session a “Ramp
walk” was conducted by beauticians with a specified theme “Bridal makeup” . The
programme prepared on guidance of Skill trainer Mrs. Geetha V C and PE Bushara
