Environment Day Celebration

“June 5th, the whole world celebrating as the world environment day is also a best acting day for some people, because some people will definitely act like the nature lovers to appear on TV or newspapers. But there are true nature lovers whose life belongs to nature.”

Golden moments

An Experience sharing by Ms. Sneha K V, Retail Sales Associate-2015-16 batch SDC GHSS Kottila (School: GWHSS Cherukunnu) about the Environment day conducted at Skill Development Center

June 5th, the whole world celebrating as the world environment day is also a best acting day for some people, because some people will definitely act like the nature lovers to appear on TV or newspapers. But there are true nature lovers whose life belongs to nature. So, on June 5 the whole ASAP family including me also celebrated that green day. As a part of celebration we all Asapians shared our lunches to each other without any limitations. That kind of sharing and eating was my first experience and also very memorable one. After lunch we sang songs together and there was a street play by senior ASAP students. The play had a theme of protecting the environment. It was presented very nicely and we all once again understood the importance of nature. After that program we all students were divided into groups. I was in 1st group and there was 16 members in my group. Each group had a teacher and my group was lead by Bassem sir. Sir lives in kozikode but was born in kannur. Sir talks in a kozikodan slang which is very nice to hear. Each group member was given a plant and we were given a task of planting this plant to different houses. Each group choose different area to plant their plants. My group choose an area behind the Kottila school. On the way we sang together and also discussed different environmental problems. When Bassem sir sang and told us small jokes he was one of us. Our way was very slippery due to rain. We had to walk very slowly and carefully. It was also sloppy, so we walked slowly carefully enjoying the nature’s beauty. At first we went to Jisha maam’s mother’s house. We first introduced our self then told her why we where there and asked her permission to plant the tree. That grandma gave us permission to plant. There was 16 different types of plants in our hands, and there was a question, which plant will be planted first? We asked Grandma, she said Gooseberry tree will be fine. I was so glad because it was my plant that grandma had choosen. Sharath, a member of my group said that ‘we will name it as SNEHA ’. I felt so happy and so proud. A tree in my name! MY TREE! We saw a turtle in that house. After planting my tree we went to other houses to plant trees. On our way, we came across a dog and it started barking at us. Ajith, a member of my group went towards the dog, Bassem sir warned Ajith not to challenge the dog. Ajith got back and we slowly continued our walk. At 3 we returned to our school.
By this program we learned a lot of things like- how to plant a tree, what is team work, how to keep plastic far from nature and so on. It was really a good attempt by ASAP to create an awareness about the need to plant trees and protect them. By such act, I believe we can protect our mother earth. I am so lucky to have got a chance like this. This was really a golden moment for me. Thanks to my ASAP for giving me a day which I will always cherish.
