Environment Day Celebration

“June 5th, the whole world celebrating as the world environment day is also a best acting day for some people, because some people will definitely act like the nature lovers to appear on TV or newspapers. But there are true nature lovers whose life belongs to nature.”

Golden moments

An Experience sharing by Ms. Sneha K V, Retail Sales Associate-2015-16 batch SDC GHSS Kottila (School: GWHSS Cherukunnu) about the Environment day conducted at Skill Development Center

June 5th, the whole world celebrating as the world environment day is also a best acting day for some people, because some people will definitely act like the nature lovers to appear on TV or newspapers. But there are true nature lovers whose life belongs to nature. So, on June 5 the whole ASAP family including me also celebrated that green day. As a part of celebration we all Asapians shared our lunches to each other without any limitations. That kind of sharing and eating was my first experience and also very memorable one. After lunch we sang songs together and there was a street play by senior ASAP students. The play had a theme of protecting the environment. It was presented very nicely and we all once again understood the importance of nature. After that program we all students were divided into groups. I was in 1st group and there was 16 members in my group. Each group had a teacher and my group was lead by Bassem sir. Sir lives in kozikode but was born in kannur. Sir talks in a kozikodan slang which is very nice to hear. Each group member was given a plant and we were given a task of planting this plant to different houses. Each group choose different area to plant their plants. My group choose an area behind the Kottila school. On the way we sang together and also discussed different environmental problems. When Bassem sir sang and told us small jokes he was one of us. Our way was very slippery due to rain. We had to walk very slowly and carefully. It was also sloppy, so we walked slowly carefully enjoying the nature’s beauty. At first we went to Jisha maam’s mother’s house. We first introduced our self then told her why we where there and asked her permission to plant the tree. That grandma gave us permission to plant. There was 16 different types of plants in our hands, and there was a question, which plant will be planted first? We asked Grandma, she said Gooseberry tree will be fine. I was so glad because it was my plant that grandma had choosen. Sharath, a member of my group said that ‘we will name it as SNEHA ’. I felt so happy and so proud. A tree in my name! MY TREE! We saw a turtle in that house. After planting my tree we went to other houses to plant trees. On our way, we came across a dog and it started barking at us. Ajith, a member of my group went towards the dog, Bassem sir warned Ajith not to challenge the dog. Ajith got back and we slowly continued our walk. At 3 we returned to our school.
By this program we learned a lot of things like- how to plant a tree, what is team work, how to keep plastic far from nature and so on. It was really a good attempt by ASAP to create an awareness about the need to plant trees and protect them. By such act, I believe we can protect our mother earth. I am so lucky to have got a chance like this. This was really a golden moment for me. Thanks to my ASAP for giving me a day which I will always cherish.

Oikos'16 - Introductory Speech

Oikos'16 - Introductory Speech by Sreelakshmis Ashokan, ASAP, GHSS Cheruthazham.

Honorable dignitaries, respected teachers, parents and my dear friends. A warm good morning to one and all. Neil Armstrong, Tenzing Hillary, Kalpana Chawla, Indira Gandhi and many more. All these names are associated with the first step. We were used to hear these names since our childhood. All those names are set as default in our mind. Yes! Standing in front of you I am proud to say that we are also stepping to be part of a history.
"Oikos'16, Originating from the Original". This is the debut step of ASAP SDC Kottila to explore the multidimensional talent of the ASAP students. When we select this name, "Oikos" many of my friends asked me what does Oikos stands for. The term Oikos stands for Greek Etymology. It stands for the related multiplicity of concept. Here we consider it as root word for our mother ecosystem where we all are originated.
Being a human being we all are blessed with lots of talents. From where do these originated? From where we have originated? From where this entire universe originated? We can’t postulate an apt answer, but we know the fact.  We all are originated from the nature, originated from ecosystem. We are born here, brought up here, and being old here.

Yes, let us originate from the original, that is Oikos, where everything is originated from the original. I welcome you all to Oikos'16, Be Original.
Additional Skill Acquisition Program started its journey in 2012. In its initial stage, there were five institution under this Skill Development Center. But now it is mapped with 11 institutions. These institutions are full-fledged with the budding talents. It is not the additional skill we have attained, but in fact we have created add-ons to ourselves.
It is not self praising, we have transformed. We could clearly define ourselves before and after ASAP.
To be frank I was afraid to face the crowd when I was in plus one. But now, I am in front of this large audience.
Oikos'16 is framed in such a way that to explore the status of Kottila SDC Asapians.

Once again welcome you all to Oikos, thank you.

Oikos '16; An experience sharing

"Oikos '16 is debut skill celebration conducted by asapians of ASAP Skill Development Center GHSS Kottila on 28 May 2016"

The Background
After the fourth year of succession, Skilling more than 700 students, now we are much confident to expose the skill of students to society and industry.  Oikos ’16 is a humble initiative for the same.  While Oikos was in our mind our dream was it should be for by and of the students and the programme should be a reflection of the skills they acquired from the Foundation Module.
A beautiful correlation between five Foundation projects and the skill courses blended with the upcoming industrial opportunities in the locality. And we planned a programme to showcase that beautiful saga.
The preparation

Preperatory meeting
“All of a sudden”, that was Oikos’16.  When we had our first meeting all the students were eager to know what has to happen. Even the faculty members were waiting for a start up. When we asked who can co-ordinate the event, we got that awaited response, the big letter “I”…. I am ready to take any responsibility, any challenge from the students. First it was Ms. Shameena Bayan (Trainee, Asst. Beauty Therapist) who raised her hand and elected as the coordinator of the programme. From that day itself we witnessed our students’ professional way of organizing.

The next challenge was to acquire the fund. Fortunately our Kottila School got a beautiful auditorium and the ambiance was apt for our programme.  Institution and management was eager to share the venue for us. So we decided to conduct the program as celebration of skills, art and professional growth.  Next we discussed the plan with District Programme Manager Mrs. Smitha Sukumaran, and put forward our programme proposal to her. She responded very enthusiastically and offered all support for Oikos’16.

     Venue arrangements: Oykos ‘16

The whole Kottila ASAP family had Sleepless nights and restless days. Students prepared themselves in between the skill classes and special classes. The senior students were busy with refining and redefining their projects. All the other preparations were simultaneously moving with a proper coordination.
The lead role for the venue arrangement was taken by five asapians – Sarath, Abhijith, Ajith, Nikhil and Dany.  Outsiders who visited the school were surprised to see the stage arrangement. The whole stage was set up in a professional way. Students dropped their artistic skills in the decoration.

Master of Ceremonies were Sreelakshmi and Vismaya. After hectic preparations and practices of project sessions they found time to prepare for the script and rehearsal the narrations.
